In Memoriam: Karen Mihalovich

Karen Mihalovich

Karen Mihalovich

It is with sadness that we say goodbye to Karen Mihalovich. Karen died on Friday, March 3, 2023, in Santa Rosa, CA. Cause of death is unknown. Here is her obituary: Karen Mihalovich, 71, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023, in Santa Rosa, CA. Whimsical, musical, super-creative and soprano coloratura. Great chef and bbq master. Her beautiful garden at Pie-in-the-Sky on Trinity Road was the envy of many (and fed her hogs and goats). She was bright, funny, cooky, and one of the most gorgeous women this side of the Mediterranean. She competed for the Merola awards in San Francisco, but also sang all the jazz and Broadway standards. And she rocked.
Karen is survived by her brother, Dan Mihalovich and his wife, Judy Stern of Tiburon; Dr. Christina Hansen, stepdaughter of Reno; Nate Mihalovich, nephew, his wife, Ellen Mihalovich and Irving Mihalovich, grand-nephew of Brooklyn; Cayla Mihalovich, niece; and she was the eldest of ten first-cousins. A private memorial service has been planned.
Please let me know of any memories you have so that I can post them here. Thanks, Linda

Linda Katuna Harvey (me): I am sad to announce the death of Karen Mihalovich. See her obituary and photo on our website, www.westmoor1969.com. Check the home page, In Loving Memory, and News.
These announcements are always difficult for me to post. I go through a private farewell where I say goodbye in my heart, even for those I never knew that well. I feel connected to all of my high school classmates, though, of which we have now lost 77. I’m including Jim Potts, so really 76 Westmoor students from our great Class of 1969. But because there are 76 gone, I know there are more–we just haven’t been told of the others.
Please share any memories of Karen. And take good care.
Joan Riba: I’m so sorry to hear this. Thank you for letting us know, Linda.
Dave Leventhal: I’m speechless! Karen was such a talented person.
Jackie Prince Cummings: OMG, I am so sad to hear this! For some reason, I was just thinking about her a few days ago and wondering how she is doing? We were pretty good friends in grammar and junior high school. We used to collect money for UNICEF from house to house when we were kids. And had so much fun in our little adventures back in the day. May she rest in peace! 🙏🥀🙏
Christine (Hill) Hall: Very hard to say goodbye.
Sandy Castro: I am so sorry to hear this Linda…. May Karen rest in peace🙏
Jack Fuller: Thank you Linda. These days we grieve a lot.
Dave Bauer: R. I. P. 🙏😢
Louise Giusto: Karen’s beaming smile is still imprinted in my mind, & remembering her fun-loving spirit & how she’d do the shimmy at the school dances, grinning from ear to ear still brings me joy. Such a wonderful soul will be greatly missed! She tried to teach me how to shimmy, too, but I couldn’t figured it out. She was so talented!
Jackie Prince Cummings: She could really play the piano like no other at such a young age too!
Steve Minkin: She was in my Confirmation Class. Had a nice smile!
Robert Baba: ❤️
Brian Tinsley: Sorry to hear that.

Karen and I were “best” friends in 6th grade at Fernando Rivera. She had Mr. Lupino wrapped around her little finger. He gave the 2 of us time off to compose and write the school song, which I believe is still being used today. Memories of those days make me smile.

Candy, I remember you and the song.
      “Fernando Rivera who are they?
The best school in the USA.
With green and white we’ll fight, fight, fight
To keep our school within the might.”
