In Memoriam: Steve Powell

steve powell (2)We lost Steve March 18, 2016. Remembering him is easy to do. He was #75 on the Ram varsity football team and is seen throughout our 1969 yearbook. He’s pictured running through Westmoor’s campus holding hands with Barbara Herring, but he and Chris Noero were married for 40-plus years.

See Steve’s obituary.

See our class Facebook page for stories and condolences.

Stephen Powell
Dec 16, 1950 – Mar 18, 2016
Resident of Danville
Steve Powell was a fun-loving, party-throwing, strong, loud, kind man. He spent his early years as a football star. He received a full ride football scholarship to San Jose State University where repeated concussions led to the end of his football career. Steve joined the Police Academy, which was his calling. In no time, he was receiving commendations for his excellent service.
Shortly after joining the force, he married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Christine (Noero) Powell, and upon starting their family, Steve left the force to have more time to dedicate to his girls.
No career ever captured his heart the way police work did, but as father to Jennifer Powell, Stacey Hummell, and Annie Powell, Father-in-Law to Zach Hummell, and grandfather to Ava Crouse, Micah Tannenbaum, and Kaia Hummell, his heart was full.
Many of us benefitted from Steve’s abundant goodwill. He’d be the first to donate his time, his ingenuity, and his love. To honor his generous spirit, we ask that in lieu of flowers, you please donate to: www.ProtectTheBrain.org/donations (from a desktop/laptop computer) for the ongoing research into the prevention of CTE and the encouragement of concussion prevention in athletics.
