He leaves behind siblings Marilene Gonzalez (Art), Darlene Torres, Thomas York, Michele Chermock (Rick), and Suzanne York (Rafael); brothers-in-law Keith Nieves and Gregory Trevigne, and sister-in-law Robyn Navarra (Stephen). Loving nephew of Bessie York and Charles York. Uncle, grand-uncle, great-grand uncle to many nieces and nephews. Ron was a graduate of Westmoor High School in Daly City. As a teenager, he mentored under Dudley Stuckert, owner of a sheet metal business. As Ron’s father was a member of the UA Local 38 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union, it was natural he would follow in his father’s footsteps. He met Lawanda and they began dating, and married two years later. They bought a home on the same block as both their parents. Their love and commitment to each other lasted 48 years.

Ron loved many genres of music: oldies, surf-rock-pop, doo-wop and country, among many others. He watched the Beach Boys, Moody Blues, and Roy Orbison concert specials on KTVU. Ron enjoyed camping, fishing, barbecuing and, in later years, walking at Lake Merced, trips to Cache Creek, and doing word searches.

What Ron loved more than anything was caring for his family and spending time with them. His greatest joys were gatherings at his home, good food, and great talks. He also enjoyed vacationing with his family. His annual Christmas tradition for the family was assembling gift bags containing everyone’s favorite snacks and drinking a yearly bourbon and seven with his eldest grandson. When his granddaughter Jenna came to visit, he always made sure her favorite cookies and ice cream were waiting for her. Ron delighted in watching his youngest grandsons play baseball and having them sleep over. He was also the person everyone would call in times of need, whether it was for plumbing advice, house repairs, or a ride wherever someone needed to go. He was a devoted and much-loved husband, father, and grandfather. Although he is no longer with us, loving memories of Ron will sustain all who knew and loved him.

A private inurnment will take place at Cypress Lawn Memorial Park Friday, August 2 at 11:00 a.m. A Celebration of Life will follow at the Laurel Pavilion at 12:00 p.m. for family and friends to gather to honor Ron’s memory.
